Dawid;

Markus is right, have your transmission serviced (mostly because it is a service often neglected).

But the M-B automatic downshift has always has tended to be harsh, particularly 4th to 3rd when accelerating from a turn. It's typical in the W123, W124 and W126 through the 80's.

When going into a corner, get into the habit of manually downshifting and you will have bags of power to accelerate through and out of the corner correctly. (Remember to upshift before you reach 160Kph or so) It's much easier on the transmission and kinder to your passengers.

And your transmission will thank you with many extra years of life.

RKS:
Why upshift so early? I let my car run through to 190Kph - it loves it!! From 3,000rpm the MB extractors start to make that charactoristic gurgling sound and the full power of the 560 engine has a chance to stretch its legs (non-cat 220kw version, 1987).
