[W126 Coupe] Early light switch vs. later year question

Dick, On my 87, I have the euro light switch in there with the bezel that operates the vacuum assisted height adjusters for the headlights. That swapped out straight for the US light switch. Anyhow, if I turn one "click" to the right, and then pull out, I can get the fogs on. This also turns the headlights on real dim though, I think that is called the citilight feature - you can see that small bulb on real dim - not the H4 bulb. One more click to the right turns the headlights on normally, and if I also pull out, the fogs are on too. So I guess to answer your question, I can't put JUST fogs on without at least dim headlights also being on. But in my case, they are pretty dim so that may be okay for you? Don't know if the switches are interchangeable between the years, but I don't know why not..? Hello list types: Will the 1990 rotary light switch replace the 1983 in a 126? I've noted that the later model year switch permits operation of the fogs absent any other running lights. In the 83 I have to have headlights on to turn on the fogs with a single pull. Before I replace the switch can anyone confirm that in fact the stock switch for later years can somehow operate just the fogs?
