Hi Bob:
No rust whatsoever, maybe pull one of the headlamp assemblies to check the bucket at the front of the fender for rust, check the bottom of the A pillar for rust just in front of either door, trunk floor, and scrutinize the rubberized undercoating for any signs of cracks where rust will be sitting hidden from view.
top in good condition,
leather interior...
engine-dual chain conversion done,
suspension renewed-rear subframe factory recall work done?
HVAC- ACC servo controller converted to a digital version since the old ones failed and the repairs are not cheap
How many miles since the dual chain conversion? I'd require a mechanics inspection prior to a final offer and have the mechanic pull the cylinder head covers to check the cams and rockers for galling and the sprockets for wear. Do the usual front and rear suspension, transmission, rear end, drive shaft checks, road test, etc.
Where I have had the experience of working on an 81 SLC, these things I know have a way of creeping up on you. So better to pay for a thorough qualified inspection where you have your check list, the mechanic has his, and you agree to what is needed to make it purr-fect and the costs are known, then make an offer.
Dick

I'm looking at an SL for $10K in good shape he has all the records and it runs well AC is ok, cruise works . It's red and that's what I want, but he caution about driving it on trips and or every day. He has owned for 5 years and only put 10K miles on it. Are these cars as TOUGH as the SEC? Help.
