I have a '84 380SL and they are rated at 134 mph so it is no dog and 21 mpg to boot on regular unleaded. Also it is a great joy to drive and behold! My '91 560 SEC is quicker but has a robust thirst for premium unleaded. Low miles really boost the price of the SL. That year ( through 1983 ) have the single timing chain issue unless converted after the fact to double row. If mine had the single I would probably not go through the expense of changing to double row but would treat it as a maintenance item every 40,000 miles. This link has a lifetime of information on the 107 http://www.380sl.8k.com/ .
Best Wishes,
John

That price sounds awfully high to me. They're available all over for less than that, aren't they? That's a 380?

I'm looking at an SL for $10K in good shape he has all the records and it runs well AC is ok, cruise works . It's red and that's what I want, but he caution about driving it on trips and or every day. He has owned for 5 years and only put 10K miles on it. Are these cars as TOUGH as the SEC? Help.
