[W126 Coupe] Denso Iridium Spark Plugs and the SEC
a figment of the imagination

Hi all!
Okay, here's a question for debate that has been going
on for some time on all the Benz forums.
What is the premium spark plug for the SEC?
Today, I just completed a tune-up job for my 380 SEC.
As part of the many normal things one would do during
a simple tune-up, I replaced my Bosch Platinum-2's
with Denso Iridium plugs, instead of the Bosch Supers
(W9DC's..). Instead of going back down, I went up...
I know Gary (from Canada) uses Iridium's on his 560
SEC. So far, I am not aware of any complaints.
The one improvement I noticed right away was that the
misfiring I had after the huge downpour went away, but
I think the reason this was fixed had to do with
replacing my most likely worn-out or damaged dizzy cap
and rotor. Nevertheless, with these Iridium plugs
the car just fired up so quietly and smoothly. It was
an impressive change. I haven't driven it yet, and am
waiting for a response. In general, with the more
efficient spark, I expect to gain improved performance
and better fuel economy.
However, my concern here comes after reading about so
many others who warn of not using anything different
than the Bosch Supers. I truly do not understand the
dangers of using Platinums, Platinum 4's, or Iridiums.
I also have not seen any *new* original literature
from Bosch or MBZ that warns against these *newer*
plugs.
1) Are these truly justified contra-indications?
2) What is my biggest risk in using these Denso
Iridium plugs? Do I need to take them off right away
before I supposedly destroy my engine, an argument for
which I have not seen one solid basis for as of yet.
Please advise.
Thank ya!
