I have also the 1984 300 SD and it is really a work horse. I bought it from a doctor late 1987 for $25,000 with 52,000 miles.

Today the car has close to 290,000 miles. I had the timing chain and valve job done at about 188,000 miles and the tranny at 220,000 miles.

Today I drive most of the time 560 SEC and once every 14 days the diesel. It never refuse to start,

I heard the best diesels are the ones after 2000. They are as quiet as the gas engines and as fast also. That engineering is so well done, that they do not need a turbo.
