[W126 Coupe] AC Blower not working

Paul,

There are mainly 3 points of failure apart from the fuses;

1- The pushbutton assy (mostly a bad solder or broken circuit due to a crack on the board) (Mike's reply is more thorough here)
2- The fan motor brushes
3- The resistor (if you're unlucky enough)

Mine was working intermittently. My mechanic first changed the motor brushes with some after-market ones to no avail, then he re-soldered every point on the pushbutton board, and finally cured the problem by swithcing to original brushes. Now the fan never fails to run- even if you don't want it to... It runs normally at every speed, but keeps running at low when everyting is switched off. Even though he insists it is the resistor, I can't help suspecting he made a short while renewing the solders... I hope to look at it myself when I have the time.

  On my 1986 560 SEC:

  The ac is working (I get cool air from the vents, which flows when I
  pop the sunroof up to create a slight draft), but the blower fan
  refuses to work in any of the 3 modes. The 30A fuse outside of the
  fuse box was busted, so I replaced it and the fan worked again; then
  stopped. That new fuse is still intact, but the #10 fuse in the fuse
  box was broken, so I replaced that one--no change.

  It is very hot in So. Cal. these days.

  What should I be checking next?

  Thanks,

  Paul
