[W126 Coupe] REALLY cheap performance upgrade!

MBL,
The gentleman that suggested this improvement, the head of the service
department at Fletcher Jones Mercedes, said I could go to Parts Department
and get an SL part for about $13 that would do this. If the parts department
had been open, I would have snapped in a Mercedes part instead of my
home-made unit but it was too late that night.

My supposition is that if MB has a part for this, then mine is just a
cheaper version of it and the system has already been engineered for it.

I guess I could be getting "full throttle" somewhat before the pedal gets to
the floor, but with the spring loaded unit in there it was a certainty I was
never getting the full throttle switch on the butterfly.

Regarding full throttle, linkage mods, and kick-down issues, I think the
spring
link serves a valuable function and should be retained.

Actual WOT is meant to occur when the accel. pedal just touches the
kick-down
switch. After that point, the linkage is moved further in order to activate
both
the kick-down switch & pull cable to the transmission.

The spring link allows this additional movement without over-stressing the
'already to the stops' cruise control & throttle actuator linkage.

If it is determined the car isn't getting WOT, a simple (one bolt)
adjustment
can be made up near the firewall.

Pics below.

Cheers, MBL
