Re: [W126 Coupe] Snapped CamThanks Matt and Malcolm,
I did present the warped head and cam tower theory to the mechanic and he listened. The old cam was not out today and he is closing for a week to go on vacation. That is really OK since my car is inside of his shop and I have this miniature 217 hp 300CE to drive. When this is all done I will post results of the findings. Until this happened to me a few weeks ago I had never heard of a camshaft snapping and probably did not believe it was possible.
Best Wishes,
John

  Hi John,

"They did replace the oil tube, on both sides, at the last cam change. When I suggest the lubrication issue they mentioned that the oil tubes were actually fed through this tower. Now that I look at your picture that does not seem correct, the tube system feeds them as well as the cam lobes."

If I understand your above post regarding the oil flow diagram provided (from the MB CDs), it looks to me as though the oil feeds up through the rear cam bearing tower, and is distributed from there through the top oil feed tube & into the lifter/compensator area as well. I believe the techs are actually correct regarding oil flow.

Matt makes a good point regarding cam bearing alignment too.

I blew the photo up a bit for clarity.

  Malcolm
