That was a thought in why this 1 inch bar of steel would snap. There was not ever a thought about warranty responsibility or payment. Since the replacement was MB original equipment a friend of mine speculated it was NOS that came from the same bad batch as the original cam Go Figure?

Sorry for not answering your VIN question however my point was that you have something wrong with your SEC and your comment that the mechanic thought it was related to the removal of the "restricting tubes" wouldn't inspire confidence in me.
Matt.

I was looking for a legitimate answer on the VIN.

I think you need to find yourself another mechanic. Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.
Matt.

My pristine '91 560SEC snapped a camshaft for the second time in less than a month. Right before the last cylinder in the drivers side #8 as before. The owner/mechanic and I have speculated why? Perhaps because I took off the restricting tubes to the air filter and it got too much air, probably not, some people supercharge their car! There is no question that it is covered by warranty with less than 1000 since the new cam but..... The loaner he gave me is intriguing! It is a 1992 300CE and what a red cutie. Somehow I do not think this minimal bumpered thing was made for the American market, can anyone help with the VIN. It is WBDEA51D7NB652805.
Thanks in Advance and Best Wishes,
John
