Hi there Mister Magoo,
I¹m a bit skeptical about an oil leak from the head gasket causing the
burning rubber smell¹ symptoms described.
I have some (20K miles) experience with this one. My car has a slight head
gasket oil leak (Castrol 20/50) and it smells a bit like burning oil when
stopped on traffic or at a light only. It is fine at road speed. No roasted
rubber aroma at all.
I¹m starting to (right now) get an idea what head gasket replacement job
will cost me.
The only reason I¹m considering it is that as an asthma sufferer, I know
that the long term affects are not pretty. It really affects my breathing
after a period of stop & go for instance.
Ideas anyone, as to the probable cost. Oh yeah, 92K miles on the clock...
Uses no oil at all in 3 to 5K of spirited driving.
Many thanks, Malcolm
