Hello everyone,
I read with great regrets about work done on our cars by butchers.
I can only say that I'm a pretty careful mechanic and that after some
experience with older cars, - one must be very careful about disassembly
and re-assembly of certain items.
I've worked on cars back to the 1940's. If I get into a bind and have a
question I'll make every effort to research the problem before tearing it
apart.
I think it's important we search out the absolute best experts and
mechanics we can find before we entrust our cars to them.
The initial cost of the best experience can quickly be overshadowed by some
serious damage done by an amateur.
Remember also, - the experts on 126's are dwindling. Time is passing
quickly and the newest 126's are 15 years old.
Ironically I have had very good experience with my local MB dealer,
Contemporary Motor Cars in Little Silver, New Jersey. They have a mechanic
there that just adores 126's and every job I've sent there has been a
success, and - with no "extras", - "you also need this" and so forth. I
seem the get an honest answer every time.
The bottom line is: Try to know what you need and find the best technician.
