Re: [W126 Coupe] Photo BlockerIf its nighttime, the easiest thing to do is install a slave flash inside those rear plate lights. When the flash goes off, the slave flash flashes and you cant see a thing. I work in photography, and havent figured out why anyone hasent done this yet.

CCD's are sensitive to infrared.which is why they put aggressive IR filters on them. Even Canon's 20Da which is marketed as an astronomy digital camera has a fairly strong IR filter. While I think that and photo based ticket should not be valid on the grounds that by itself the photo radar/red-light shouldn't be considered admissible evidence (they seem to go wrong too often, plus they are often issued to the incorrect person, and while this is easily cleared up by a person who has time to go down to the adjudicator's office, this opens the elderly, the uneducated, and the busy, to potential abuses by the government), I don't care to block red light cameras because people shouldn't be running red lights. The photo radar on the other than is easily picked up by a valentine one so no need for the photo blocker. I on the other hand am reducing reflectivity to hinder laser gun range. I've got pick ups on my V1 where I was grossly overly the speed limit, so apparently it can work well enough to give me warning before a lock (though not enough to be really trustworthy, I should get a laser jammer).

I was actually thinking about that.since most digital cameras (CCDs at least) are sensitive to infrared, how about putting extremely high intensity infrared lights around the license plate frame, but always on, to avoid having to sense when the pictures are being taken (if being taken by radar cam with digital.
Anyway, I guess the more reasonable response is to just drive the speed limit right? ;)

I designed my system about 6 years ago, we no longer have photo radar in Ontario. Ahh ain't technology great. But I bet it still will work if you fire the flash into any lens at several thousand joules it will still burn out the image, maybe. Or fire it at your licence plate??
Luckily I don't have that problem anymore.

A lot of the cameras no longer use a flash, and use digital controls to level the light. Some cams (particularly red light cameras) have multiple cameras in different locations.

When they brought in, temporarily, photo radar in Ontario, I designed a system that beats it 100%.
I installed 3 small Zenon flash strobes where the licence plate screws go, and a slave to fire them in the fourth spot. When the flash from the camera fired, it hit the slave and fired my 3 strobes back into the camera. It burns the picture out completely as it highly over exposes the film. I used high speed capacitors so recovery was in a millisecond, as the photo radar usually takes 2 pictures. I got some photos from people who had been nailed and worked out the correct angle to mount the strobes. To test, take your camera and take a flash picture into a mirror.
Have fun,
Iain

Photoblocker doesn't really work.sometimes. Yes it does successfully white-out the photo, but there are ways to bring back the information, so they might still get you. The plate covers are more reliable but then again they are illegal in many states. A good place to buy this sort of stuff at is www.radarbusters.com and a good place to discuss the products with some people who know is http://www.radardetector.net/ though it doesn't seem to be working right now.

Hi Ronny,
I've not had experience with these products either, though the website has a lot of info., testimonials, etc.
Here is the site http://www.phantomplate.com/photoblocker.html for more info.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, Malcolm Lee
