Perhaps you missed these responses Bob!
I'm pretty handy but haven't really tried any mechanical repairs, always went to buddies or garage. I just got a great deal on a new rear fuel pump for only $125 plus freight. I'm wondering how hard it is to install? Are there any pressure hoses of special tool needed. I like to try it myself so any help will be appreciated.

Hi Bob:
No matter how you cut it that's a messy job with gas dripping all over you until the pressure is released. You should use a compression clamp on the main line before removal. I'd look at the metal line between pump and filter and replace it if it's corroded badly. Mine as well do the filter at the same time. And you'll need new crush washers as the old ones will leak. When you are all done have someone start the car and check carefully for leaks before driving away.
Just my 2. It's the messiest job I've done on a Mercedes!
Dick
You'll need to disconnect the battery. Tools needs line wrenches, your probably could get buy with open ends, and basic shop tools. Not to hard. Oh, and a pan to catch the gas !

Who really cares about how much reserve you have . We should all know about how many miles we can go on reserve, about 25 to 30, I ask an important ??/ and get only one response. " How to install the rear fuel pump." My time is too valuable to read about reserve. 25 miles is all I need to know.
