Catalytic Converter Test ?
Absolutely. take it to any brand name ( or really knowledgeable) muffler
shop
and they can do a back pressure test in 20min.
They burn tiny hole in the pipe before the cat, then they rev the engine
with a pressure guage. If there is an appreciable rise in pressure when
revving the engine
the cat is backed up.
Then they tack weld the pinhole closed.

Hi Richard,
any definitive way to check for bad cats?
Cal
Like rotten eggs? Your putting too much in the way of oxides of
nitrogen. I guess that indicates a bad cat.
Richard
another thing, I noticed gas around the gasoline filler cap. I thought this
might be getting old and gas leaking from there, but I always get the whoosh
when I turn the cap.
Sincerely,
Calvin A.Young
