You need to provide additional information.  You might just check this before proceeding.  If the shift gate just moves easily back and forth with no change in transmission you may want to check the (2) $3 MB Teflon coated bushings that attach the shift gate linkage to the tranny.  Located at the rear of the transmission valve body under the driver's seat.

What do you mean by sluggish for a few days?  Did this relate to shifting or just poor acceleration performance where the engine seemed bogged down?
