[W126 Coupe] The Temperature! (and other stuff)

Iann,
I got the new rotors and pads today and they'll be on this weekend. That
should get me quiet brakes.
I put on a new viscous clutch from Rusty's Parts. They had two clutches for
sale, a Behr for $178 and another one for $148. I bought the less expensive
one but don't have the name - started with an "s". While I had the MB fan
out, I cleaned it up and painted it, then put it onto the new clutch, then
back into the car. Without the painting, it should take fifteen minutes to
replace the clutch.
Later,

First I used Wagner Thermo Quite pads on the rear with the red high temp
Permatex, still quite. They came chamfered and cut, recommended by my parts
guy, very reasonably priced. Wagner didn't recommend anything be put on the
pads, but they groaned and squealed, but not after the Permatex. Thin layer,
put on immediately.
Second, my viscous fan on my 560 SEL is getting very noisy, What fan did
you put on. Also from other listers, I've read that they put a flex fan on??
Make, price, was it a straight fit??
Thanks, Iain
P.S. Sold the 86 560 SEC Koenig widebody on the weekend.

OK, I abused several folks last winter when it was -22 degrees and blizzard
conditions in the northeast. Now it's your turn. It's still officially
Spring here in Las Vegas and we got to 105 degrees today. It's the third day
in a row for 100+ readings and we have maybe three days more of 100+
readings. Today was great for me though, I worked at home and never left the
air conditioning. I did verify that the new a/c duct I had run into the
garage made a difference though - with an insulated garage door and the a/c
vent only partially open, it did get to 90 in there, fifteen degrees below
the outside air.
I put a new standard fan clutch on the SEC a couple of weeks ago and it is
now running noticeably cooler than the SEL with a stock (original) clutch.
Looks like I'll be ordering a clutch for the SEL shortly.
The NoiseFree brake compound I tried on the SEC rear brakes isn't much
better than the Permatex or CRC anti-squeal compound. I bought a set of PBR
semi-metallic rear brake pads for the SEC and they squealed like mad on
there. I put on a thin coat of Permatex on the pads and shims, then a
thicker coat on the pads and shims, then took off the shims and put on a
fairly thick coat of Permatex, but it was still noisy. I tried the orange
CRC anti-squeal compound with and without shims, but no change. I heard
about NoiseFree, that it was "industrial strength" anti-squeal, but it was
not much better and the brakes are still noisy. The NoiseFree guy said that
the lip on the outside of the rear rotors was a part of the problem, then
said the ridge on the inside was part of the problem after I told him that I
had ground off the outer lip and put on a nice layer his compound to no
avail.
Rusty didn't refund the cost of the PBR pads when I purchased a set of Pagid
pads, new rear rotors, and new parking brake parts. Not much to like there
either.
