OK, I abused several folks last winter when it was -22 degrees and blizzard
conditions in the northeast. Now it's your turn. It's still officially
Spring here in Las Vegas and we got to 105 degrees today. It's the third day
in a row for 100+ readings and we have maybe three days more of 100+
readings. Today was great for me though, I worked at home and never left the
air conditioning. I did verify that the new a/c duct I had run into the
garage made a difference though - with an insulated garage door and the a/c
vent only partially open, it did get to 90 in there, fifteen degrees below
the outside air.
I put a new standard fan clutch on the SEC a couple of weeks ago and it is
now running noticeably cooler than the SEL with a stock (original) clutch.
Looks like I'll be ordering a clutch for the SEL shortly.
The NoiseFree brake compound I tried on the SEC rear brakes isn't much
better than the Permatex or CRC anti-squeal compound. I bought a set of PBR
semi-metallic rear brake pads for the SEC and they squealed like mad on
there. I put on a thin coat of Permatex on the pads and shims, then a
thicker coat on the pads and shims, then took off the shims and put on a
fairly thick coat of Permatex, but it was still noisy. I tried the orange
CRC anti-squeal compound with and without shims, but no change. I heard
about NoiseFree, that it was "industrial strength" anti-squeal, but it was
not much better and the brakes are still noisy. The NoiseFree guy said that
the lip on the outside of the rear rotors was a part of the problem, then
said the ridge on the inside was part of the problem after I told him that I
had ground off the outer lip and put on a nice layer his compound to no
avail.
Rusty didn't refund the cost of the PBR pads when I purchased a set of Pagid
pads, new rear rotors, and new parking brake parts. Not much to like there
either.
