In the Porsche realm, 997s are much more preferable. I don't think you'd be happy with a Boxster. Although they are a horizontially-opposed six like the 911s, the Boxster's engine is totally different, and they have problems with crankshafts. I've worked on a lot of Boxsters, (and Porsches in general) and was never very impressed with the Boxster. The Carrera 2 or 4 is an excellent choice.
