they have a photo of you driving the car or got a very close look at the 
driver, then they likely don’t have a case because they can’t prove it was YOU 
that was the miscreant. They may have the license number but if there are other 
people that can drive your car, “prove it’s me and I’ll pay it” might just 
work.
