I'm curious, do the turn signals work? I know if you unplug the
connector at the back of the hazard switch the turn signals will stop
working...perhaps this bit of info will help isolate the problem?

Hi Tracy:
If you have an SEC without the airbag, I have a pristine OEM wheel if
you
are interested. The wheel and adapter I picked up from Autobahn on the
web.
The set-up is the shifter knob and wheel to match called the F-16
Fighter
made by MOMO. You do need the adapter for the steering column as well
and
available from Autobahn.
I would shop for the best deal on the set-up if you are looking today.
My
notes indicate that Autobahn in 2001 was 'very' slow in shipping and at
one
point I feared they had gone out of business and filed a complaint with
MOMO
USA.
If you go this route and plan on doing the shift knob as well, drop me a
line. The shift knob requires a special bit of work to attach to the
original Mercedes chrome shaft.
As for emergency flasher 'kluged' wiring, I have no thoughts on
resolving.
On the rheo have you bypassed it to see if 12VDC lights up the
instrument
cluster? If you are good with a VOHM meter or probe with lamp you'll
soon
figure it out.
Take care,
Dick
