[W126 Coupe] Auxillary Fan

IIRC there are three things that are supposed to switch it on: 
coolant temp > 110C
A/C on
Defroster on

The A/C and defroster part are controlled by that red bit on the
evaporator.

Hello all,

I would like to understand the function of the control for the aux
cooling 
fan on my '86 560.  This is the one directly behind the grill.

It seems to run almost all the time and is quite loud.

How is circuit wired and what sensor switches it?
