[W126 Coupe] Rusty Bolt

I believe that it was Archimedes that said give me a lever long enough and I can move the world.

the answer is to get the 3/4 pry bar and the five foot pipe. this will move the bolt. you might have to support the pry bar at the wheel with a 4 by 4 block of wood cut to fit to the right height to support the knuckle of the prybar. a friend to help hold the bar might also be in order.

I would hesitate to use a screw extractor. the two times I have used them they broke off in the recalcitrant bolt and I had a larger problem. I then had to drill out the screw extrator which is a really hard problem since the metal used to make them is so hard. levereage is the key.

So I got a new set off BF Goodrich tires at costco ($381 installed) but
turns out they were unable to get one nut off on the front right tire.
They sent me to another shop but even they, after trying 3 different
guns, could not get it off.

So once I find a shop that can get the damn thing off, most likely
something will have broken. Now I was told (and not having a service
manual handy) that if one of the bolts breaks, I'd have to replace the
backplate to which all five bolts are attached.. any truth to that?

mike
