[W126 Coupe] FW: repair cost questions

IIRC the way the compressor gets mounted in the car though is upside
down, and somehow this doesn't allow it to get properly lubricated and
will burn out prematurely. IIRC Benz takes the same compressors, opens
them up, turns the insides upside down, so that when it's mounted upside
down it's really right side up.

Hi Tom,
A large number of Mercedes were equipped with Harrison A/C compressors
(as my 500SEC is) which are also OEM on most GM cars. Take the Harrison
number off your compressor, take it to your friendly local Advance Auto
parts,(or Auto Zone, or Pep Boys) and get a remanufactured unit, and
usually a lifetime warranty, for around $80-90. I have done this many
times, most recently (about a month ago) on a 300SD. Works perfectly.
Later,
Chris
