  Good point, however, lubrication is not the goal here but rather noise
isolation.
  Water would be best but it beads up too easy. Penetrating oil will get in
and change the noise long enough to pin point the location.
  It's not really a good idea to lubricate those bushings.

Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious to you, but try some heavier grease?
WD40 is good for cleaning, terrible for lubrication.
