You don't really believe you could feel the difference in tires filled with helium vs air, do you?

You should have had a Morris Oxford.  Helium filled tyres give a floaty feeling when fitted to Austins.   

Does anyone remember the Denbigh "Super Chauvinist" featured in "Car and Driver" in the 1960s? Under the heading "Paint Quality" was the note that each car was coloured.  Apart from the Rolls Royce and Bentley  (triumphs of craftmanship over engineering) and perhaps one of two of the Jaguar models the only decent cars the Brits managed to produce in any quantity since 1960 were Rovers.  Of course there still are delicious pieces of limited production like Morgan, Bristol and Lotus.   

It's said that Austin/Morris lost money on every Mini they made.  Crazy. 

Having attacked British sedans I now turn my attention to Italian rustbuckets, full of pre-loosened bolts and American gin palaces on wheels  - - - -   

I used to love reading "Car and Driver".  Must have been the Brock Yates influence.  They once photographed an Opel sedan in a junkyard with a caption to the effect that it was in it's natural home.  "A paragon of Naderian virtue" they called it.  Wouldn't accelerate, would not corner, wallowed all over the place.  Actually I don't think that was what Nader was on about at the time, but it read well.

"Yes, those are definitely too heavy.  I had a set of them on an Austin Cambridge and I had to park on the top of a hill in order to even get moving again.  (Solved that little inconvenience by filling the tires with helium!)
