With the real ICM now removed I can still have 650 at idle (somestimes) and 1500 when I unplug the 2 pin from the air slide valve. Yes, temporary replacement of all unit's
will narrow it down but before that I need to find and check the throttle switch. Here again its position and type is different on the 500 euro.

Jim;
In my cars the cruise module is bolted up beside/under the steering column. (It is aluminum and longer than the idle speed) It is screwed to a bracket with 2 phillip screws and in this case it is easier to remove the bracket (one bolt) than try to get the screws. The idle speed box has two mounting screws and I imagine that your situation is the same.
If you have no way to actually test anything, and an intermittent problem is difficult even if you have test equipment, sometimes substitution with a known good component is the easiest way. Of course, in this case you can use either component. Your valve at the air intake is easier to install, plus I believe the valve (part number) is more common. (000 141 12 25 in my case)
If you are lucky and can borrow a known good valve, switch with yours, and if the sudden high idle problem still occurs, you know the culprit is the ICM.
Snow? That's nice. I'm very happy for you.

>Thanks for your help. Found that Idle Control Module. It is behind the dash attached close to the brake pedal box on my 84 500 euro . Thats just below the steering wheel Its a RHD. So that would read passengers side on USA cars
> It was the air slide valve and connector?( near the distributor ,with 2 large rubber air connectors at back and 2 pin connector at front) that I tapped with the screwdriver.
> Yes, idle up to 1500 without warning and back to 650 when it feels like it. Is what I have
>Will have to move the seat right back and somehow get my head into a position where I can see how the ICM is mounted. hope
>it will just unclip and pull off. Tomorrow, As its 8.30 PM here in South East Australia, with heavy Snow falling.
