Thanks for your help. Found that Idle Control Module. It is behind the dash attached close to the brake pedal box on my 84 500 euro . Thats just below the steering wheel Its a RHD. So that would read passengers side on USA cars
 It was the air slide valve and connector?( near the distributor ,with 2 large rubber air connectors at back and 2 pin connector at front) that I tapped with the screwdriver.
     Yes, idle up to 1500 without warning and back to 650 when it feels like it. Is what I have
Will have to move the seat right back and somehow get my head into a position where I can see how the ICM is mounted. hope
it will just unclip and pull off. Tomorrow, As its 8.30 PM here in South East Australia, with heavy Snow falling.

  Jim;

  The Idle Speed Control is a black plastic box 4" x 1" x 3-1/2"tall. It should say "Idle Speed Control" on it or "Leerlaufdrehzahlregelung" . Mine are all on the firewall as I stated but I have also heard they are sometimes mounted behind the glovebox.

  **Maybe someone else here can advise.

  Yes, the 8" long aluminum box is the main gizmo which, in the two SEC's I have here, are hidden for your convenience in a secret place.

  The Fuel Pump Relay that I suspect you had found in the fuse box is black plastic 2-1/2" x 1-1/4" x 2 3/4"tall and plugs into the base of the fusebox.

  I had one idle control system fail on me. It's a pain to locate an intermittent problem! In my case everything was normal and occasionally, with no warning, the idle would shoot up to 1500. This can be dangerous. It happened to me a couple of times while slowing down in traffic for a red light.

  The culprit can be either the valve or the module, but the module failure seems to be more common. Fortunately it is the cheaper of the two. In my case I had no access to a known good one to borrow to test it through substitution (being a different European number), so I bought a new (rebuilt) one. That was 100,000Km ago and solved the problem for good.

  Do you have the part number from the idle control valve that you beat on with a screwdriver?
