As far as I recall imports to the North American market were all stock, then shipped to Chicago for AMG engine conversions and the overhead gage setup and the white dash cluster, they were then sent on to California for any body mods, this added about $55,000.00 to the dealers list price. I have a friend that had one done the dealer said he poured $180,000.00 to aquire the mods. Three years later when he wished to trade up the dealer offered him $25,000.00 as a trade in!!!! To-day this price value still holds.

I believe the originality of the AMG car is only important and have any bearing on purchase price is whether or not it’s original paint, and whether or not it’s a double overhead cam engine. My car has had almost every single AMG mod on it (except for the gauges and the electrically adjustable shocks), but it’s never been back to germany since it was built.
