I'd like to start out by saying that I really appreciate all the information that I find on this list. I'm saving lots of it for future reference.

Well my drivers side window made a bumping noise and then refused to raise the window all the way.

I removed the door panel this week and I am writing to tell you what I found.

I fully expected to find a faulty regulator as I could still hear the motor running but I found a different problem entirely.

The regulator bolts to the inner door in four places and I found two of the three holes severely damaged and the third starting to tear.

Go here to see the pictures.

The first picture is the lower hole. The sheet metal is splitting and there is no sign of the original hole. I was able to unbolt this one and found the missing metal in the form of a jagged washer!

The second picture is the upper hole and the nut is behind it!

The third picture is the rear slot, still serviceable.

The fourth picture is the front hole that takes the bolt, showing damage.

Well I can think of a few ways to repair this damage.
  a.. Replace the door
b.. Tig weld in some replacement sheet metal. I think 16 or 18 gage cold rolled steel would do.
c.. Braze in a body washer at each hole.
I think I am going to try the last one .

In any case the repair looks to be a PITA so check your windows as they go up and down. You might even want to pull the panels off to check for cracking sheet metal once in a while.
