Nonsense, just stick it in B when you start off and nail the kickdown when you start, then knock it into D. The trick to beating cares that outclass you (not that I think the honda does) is to just dare to go faster. Even in my 380SE I tend not to lose ground in the straight, and pick up a lot of ground in the twisties (sure, I'm not racing any fire breathing monsters, but youd think an A4 1.8T or a miata would take a US spec 380).

Hah! The gear you need to be in to beat a rice burner off the line is
one of Satish's conversions. Ain't gonna happen in a 420.
