Hi Elm:

Given that they are designed to be pressure fit in the lower control arm, you really need to rent the required tool. This tool you set-up on a bench vise and lay the arm and new ball joint in place, tighten by hand and then using an air wrench press the new ball joint in place.

So, I'd suggest trying Performance Products to see if they rent the correct tool with the correct fitting for the ball joint to sit in.

Regards,

Dick

Subject: [W126 Coupe] Lower Ball Joint Install

  Hey gang,
I'm trying to get the lower ball joints pressed back into the front spindles of my SEC.
Getting them out wasn't too much sweat, but trying to get a tool that fits to get them back in is another story!
Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to do this?
It looks like I will probably have to go to the dealer or MB shop to get them pressed in, but I was wondering if anyone else has done it without going that route or the $300 MB tool.
  Thanks!
  Elm.
