Well you are right Gary.  Not the kind of material I will share with my wife and family either.  I asked my son to share what he can with me as time moves on.  We have spent a lot of time together in sometimes difficult back country conditions and we both agreed then to not be afraid to say what was on our minds.

I remember a time when traveling with my two oldest sons we were bivouacked on a mountain side and a severe storm had moved in unexpectedly (don't they all?).  The earth was shaking, the darkness was cut by continuous strobing white light through the bivi walls, the wind was howling and you could swear there was a giant walking through the forest as the earth moved under you.  My oldest son yells from his shelter a few feet away, Hey Dad, what do you do at a time like this?  I shared what I was and had been doing for some time and said I am doing all I can guys, just do what I do...PRAY.

Final comments with regard to that clip from my son....

The guy they shot ended up Running across the street straight at them emptying 2 clips into the van killing the driver and wounding the shooter and spotter.  He then gave them medical treatment.  Go figure.

  Here is a link of some footage my oldest son sent along tonight.  He's stationed in Iraq and sits atop an armored humvee with a 50 cal. weapon dealing with this nonsense when providing force protection.

  To hear these ***** recorded on their own captured video just makes it all the more difficult to watch.

  Now I understand when he calls to say he's had a good day.  1st call. He switched from Kevlar to full metal jacket even though it's 130 degrees.  2nd call another happy message, they got new doors on the humvee, the old ones were badly shot up   3rd call.. Hey Dad, really good news, got a new Humvee and decked out the floors and roofs with nice new sandbags, should keep us for a while.

  How do you defend, protect and win the peace when you are up against this?
