They are tires that stick out beyong the wheel lip. I know the Dunlop SP Sport 5000's in 55-series profile and lower have them, and I know some Yokohamas have them.

What are rim protectors?
I had a set of Semperetes on a MGB that had like a curb bumper, but have not
seen that kind of tire in years.
Please explain or show me what you mean.
My Mom drives one of the 126's and wellllllll it coudn't hurt to know how to
protest the wheels.
