[W126 Coupe] Replacement Steering Boxes

Vince,

I can't help you with a brand recommendation, but I had my local mechanic
(West Chester, PA) replace my old steering box with an OEM reconditioned
unit.

I paid $250 for the part and about $150 for labor. The local MB dealership
quoted me $1,200 for parts and labor. I think the part itself was about $600
of that.

The steering was completely transformed with the replacement unit.
Before the replacement the steering was vague and imprecise. The steering
wheel would "travel" a bit before it started having an effect on the wheels.
Now the steering is tight and precise again.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Axel J. Wulff
