[W126 Coupe] Problem

Dick

Many thanks for your answer. I am afraid I did not make myself very clear on re reading my original email. What I am referring to is where the window meets the roof as the damaged piece appears to be plastic. They tried to lever the glass from the top and have dented the piece that seems to hold the rubber seal at the top just below the chrome strip.

Regards

Patrick

  Hi Patrick:

The front window has an inexpensive outer rubber seal (aprox $20 US) and the rear window has a very expensive wrap around rubber seal that is U shaped and includes the rubber gasket where the window meets the door as well as the inner seal (last time I looked $100+ US).

I've done the seals, front and rear along with removal of the door handle assembly.

Front window seal (outer) - remove mirror, lift chrome strips with plastic or wood shims starting near door jam above handle. They are just pressed in place. Then pry up the old rubber seal clips and all and replace with a new one.

Rear window seal (outer and inner) - requires removal of chrome strip, removal of the chrome triangle just inside the door cavity, removal of seat bottom and back, removal of interior trim panel along side the seat with handle, then removal of the 'one piece' U-shaped seal that wraps around the glass on both sides and has a special rubber gasket for where the door meets this lower section of glass.

Door handle - lift the door rubber seal in line with the door handle to access and remove a Phillips bolt, then tap the door handle rearward to free up the nose hold down bolt wedged between handle and door, using your key turn the lock cylinder 90 degrees or so and lift the entire door handle out of the door outer skin. From there you'll have to rework the lock cylinder or find a used door handle from a salvage yard.

  Regards,

  Dick

Would anyone know how to remove, if not part of body work, the strip that holds the rubber that goes around the side windows. The part is just below the chrome strip that goes from the front of the windows to the rear and seem to be made of rigid plastic and in my case black. This has been damaged due to two SOB's breaking into the car by trying to lever out the front then rear windows, this was after they had already chiselled out the door lock.

    Any help would be appreciated.
