Since I have got my car running again I have noticed the idle speed has
increase from 750rpm to 1200rpm,I have cleaned the idle air valve with carb
cleaner and removed a lot of black carbon, having viewed the archives It
would appear to have developed a vacuum leak or the idle air valve has
changed since cleaning.
I have removed the valve and the associated rubber hoses blocked them
off and applied a Mityvac, and it leaked vacuum like a sive.
The valve connecting tubes had casting burrs which I removed with a fine
file and polished, but this did not fix the leaks.
The hose are still quite soft,options are 1,new hoses,2 use a sealant,3
use hose clamps where possible.
Has anyone tried this test?what worries me is the dust that must have
followed the vacuum leaks,
The pipework is so critical that I am disappointed MB did not use clamps
on all the connections and as for the 45deg plastic connecting pipe it could
have been designed better. If anyone has used a better system or has any
fixes I would be interested.
