[W126 Coupe] Catalytic Converter questions

My car will not normally pass emissions with the cat.  I have to stop a
block away from the testing center, lean out the mixture until it will
barely run, (which scares me) have it tested and then reverse the
procedure.  Pure, unadulterated silliness!

You're right about the fine, it's $10,000 to a shop caught removing
cats, however I've never heard of an individual being caught for
removing cats, as most owners would claim ignorance, and say that they
bought the car like that (unless they bought the car new, that is). The
best way to get around cats is to hollow them out, or if you need to
stay legal, use the 5.0 Mustang high flow cats, very little if any power
lost there! :-)
