[W126 Coupe] correction on advice I gave about VA radar

Well...depends how far it goes. There is supreme court precedent that a
civilian is not expected to know proper ways of attaining evidence as
long as the intent is not to illegally obtain evidence. But I hear ya,
most people probably don't want to go that far, but what can you do
against a corrupt cop? I mean, if you show up to court it will be "you
were driving recklessly" "no I wasn't" and then guess who the judge
believes? Guilty until proven innocent (along with due process) don't
seem to apply in traffic court.

Be careful with the tape recorder! That will get you into more trouble
than
any radar detector would.

I need to make a correction about some advice I gave about using a radar
detector in VA. While it is true that the law only bans the detector if
it is powered and/or accessible by the driver or any passengers, and it
is just a $40 fine and they can only confiscate it until the hearing, I
have been told by a lawyer that some VA cops still try the old "I'll
either give you a ticket for the detector and tack one on for reckless
whether you were driving recklessly or not, or you can smash your
detector right here and now" thing. So you may want to keep a tape
recorder in your door pocket if you drive with a detector in VA.
