Hi Richard,
I had an '82 300SD several years ago, and the interior temp sensor was next to the dome lamp on it, had to replace it when I repaired the HVAC system. It would be the one to tap into if you want switched power. However, you could just wire it to the hot on the dome lamp, and just use the detector's power switch.
