Hey paul, if you are considering paying out-of-pocket to repair the car,
there's a hood on ebay RIGHT now, ending soon.  Might be cheaper than your
bodyshop would charge you.

Thanks for that explanation.  Looks like the car was paying more 
attention than its driver, who suffered only embarrassment and 
aggravation.  Luckily, a couple of days of holiday celebration with 
family and friends helps to put all that in its proper perspective.
