[W126 Coupe] 928 Valve Body

I need to negotiate with  my insurance company the damage done to my tranny by a recent accident.  This is easy except I have a Porsche 928 valvetrain that was valued at $2085 in 1990.   My questions are:
   
  1. What is the cost of a 928 valvetrain today?
  2. Can the current valvetrain be taken out of the old tranny, cleaned up, and put into a reconditioned tranny?  
   
  Transmission exchange says they can do this if they rebuild my tranny, but I am not so sure if this is smart.  I am considering pushing the insurance company for a new valve train and a reconditioned tranny.  
   
  What says the list?
