Rob,
Really nice car!
First thing you should verify is whether the timing chain and guides have
been changed. If they have not been replaced, you are living on borrowed
time. If the timing chain jumps a tooth, you'll have the pistons banging
away at the valves with a predicatable outcome (new engine...).
With regards to your wheels. From the picture they look like stock 7.5x15,
ET 25. What kind of tires are you running? There is a lot of room in the
wheel wells, I have a hard time understanding what kind of tires would cause
rubbing, unless the car has been radically lowered, but from the picture
that does not seem to be the case.
Anyway, for a tire/rim upgrade try 8.5x17, ET 17 with 235/45 tires up front.
This combination will give you an overall wheel heigth only 0.6% taller than
stock (15", 205/65). In the back you can use wider rims, 10x17, ET 18, and
tires 265/40 and still be only 0.6% taller than stock.
These wheel and rim dimensions were used by AMG for our coupes and should
fit without rubbing.
Regards,
Axel J. Wulff
