Question 2 [W126 Coupe] SEC Starting Failure After a Massive Downpour

Have you checked all of the fuses and fusable links for the fuel injection
and for the electronic ignition. Some of them are difficult to find. Have
you put a fuel pressure guage on the output of the fuel pressure regulator
that sits in line with the fuel pumps and filter under the car?

Hi!

I replaced the ignition coil wire and got nowhere.
Then I replaced the ignition module with one off a '74 280 (the pins on it
looked identical and it would awfully strange for MBZ to have made a huge
redesign of the "outputs" from these ignition modules to not try this with
just reason); however, no go.

Regarding the green wire, it doesn't look broken at the site of the ignition
module; however, it looks awfully corroded near the distributor cap. One
thing I noticed is that my green wire is missing the "solenoid"/resistor?
(round cylinder) that one would normally find under the dizzy cap. Is this
normal in an W126 body SEC? My green wire looks like it is missing
something, but I simply don't know.

I'll go to the parts store and see if I can't find a new one, instead of
trying to swap one out from older benz.

Regarding the coil, aren't most of the coils on MBZ gas engines the same?
My gut feeling is that the coil is probably okay, but that some connection
near the dizzy cap has been completely corroded beyond its last mile, given
the heavy downpour and moisture (H20, H30,
0H) inducing more oxidative damage...

Anyways, I still don't have a working car. Everyone is probably right that
there simply is no spark being given. I just wish it was easier to tell
this.

Can I not take out my #1 spark plug and touch it against the valve covers,
while cranking to see if it sparks?
