[W126 Coupe] Wheels and springs

Hi,

I have a 500 SEC which was fitted with 17" Borbet alloys by a previous 
owner. The wheels are nice, though the fronts seem to stick out a bit to 
much, but the car seems to sit very high on them. Would fitting lowering 
springs cure this and if so how much would I need to lower the suspension, 
bearing in mind that I may go to 18" AMG (style) alloys in the future.
