I hope this helps. It is not complicated, it just looks that way.
As I said, Go to the Duracool site and educate yourself
http://www.duracool.com/ If you have never worked on a A/C system, get
someone who has to assist. The biggest mistake you can make is to connect to
the high side, the next is to overfill.
You cannot direct fill or top up on a r12 system. You Can on a r134 system.
In an R12 system, you need to have the system evacuated ( go to an garage
that can empty your system, tell then you are having the engine pulled or
something and you need the system empty, and have a vacuum pulled on it to
see if there are any leaks.) Do not tell them you are going to do your own
work and are using an alternative refrigerant or be prepared for the biggest
line of doublespeak you have ever heard. If your system is Ok you fill with
the 12a. Go here for instruction sheet
http://www.deepfreezeinc.ca/pdf/complete.pdf
DC0098
Brass conversion fitting (Capped)
converts high side and low side R12 ports
to R134a quick release fitting. (Most vehicles).
Package contains one #DC0095 and one #DC009
Universal Recharge Kit
Includes:
Charging hose
Adapter fittings
2 Cans - 6oz Refrigerant
You will require these parts to cover the old r12 valves and the
recharge kit should have enough refrigerant to fill your system. Purchase 1
extra can to be on the safe side. Basically if your system is OK, you do not
need to add oil, as there should be enough oil left in the system. What I do
is fill the system as per the instructions. DO NOT OVERFILL, Ignore the old
saying, "clear the bubbles in the sight glass" (If you do that you will have
far too much coolant in the system). You use LESS duracool than r12 or r134.
I put only enough in the system to get the compressor to start and then
cycle it on and off 3-4 times. I then let the system idle. If it starts to
cycle of and on, I add small amounts only until the cycling stops. Believe
it or not this is the safest way to fill.
