Sounds like a beauty, Ellen. The 10% figure has been bandied about
quite often, but I have come to believe that it is way too high. For
example, there were more than 2.7 million W124 models produced
worldwide. At 10%, that would mean that there are nearly 300,000
Sportlines W124s driving around. I doubt that figure is even close. A
more realistic figure is 2 to 3%. We probably will never know exactly
because MB do not release any data on production figures of options.
Your situation is a bit different, because MB has published the
figure of exactly 700 US sales of the '93 190E 2.6 Limited Edition.
By the way, the Sportline badges found on the front quarter panels,
were available from MB as of Jan 2004 for $16 each. The number is 201
817 13 20 BADGE, SPORTLINE. I'd hesitate to put it on your car,
though, unless it was normally installed.
The availability of the badges have led a lot of people to put them
on non-Sportline cars.
Regards,
Steve
