Thanks, I just called Optima today. The battery for us is the 34R. It is the reverse pole version of 34. Both now have a red top. The orange color was discontinued. I asked about a reverse pole in deep cycle, yellow top and he said D35 but is physically smaller with about 25% less Amperage. He did however suggest the deep cycle would be better for a car that sat for long periods or one that had a lot of draw from non factory equipment such as stereo's, etc. The reason being that it could be abused and recovered repeatedly. Apparently starter/lighting batteries such as the red tops give stronger cold crank power and are not designed to be drawn down much. they operate within a narrow top level of charge and can be damaged if drained too far too often. I have used both in a Caprice and cannot say which is better but either is far, far better than anything else. By the way, Optima does not catalog a battery for our cars probably because of our large tray. MBcoupes archives revealed that our standard hold down will work fine. The last white M benz battery I had in a 500 SEL sat maybe too long without use And I could not figure why it was weak. My chargers showed full charge. My Baldor tester said Good. The color ball testers said OK. I happen to have a refractory that measures specific gravity of glycol(antifreeze) and battery acid and found one cell bad. When batteries go bad it is usually caused by sulphation. If it is undercharged or overcharged sulfate comes out of the sulfuric acid solution adhereing to the lead plates reducing capacity. I have a trickle charger that floats a one amp charge, then goes into a de-sulfation mode of rapid micro pulses that is said to break loose the sufate so it can go back into solution. They have plenty of emperical evidence that it works. Popular Mechanics agreed. Bad batteries brought back to life! If I follow the theory I do not  thinf it would work with a gel type electrolyte as is used in Optimas. What I don't know about batteries is shocking. Sorry--had to. Later, Jim Alexander
