[W126 Coupe] Instrument Cluster and Lighting

Thanks man.  Unfortunately, I don't have a complete
picture of which chip this is.  

1) Are we talking about a integrated circuit chip
(microprocessor) and the pins that go to this
processor?

2) Are we talking about the rectangle center cable
with approximately 5 leads on it? or the ovaloid cable
on the left rear side of the instrument cluster?  

 Somewhere back, I read that failure of the
instruments lights on 560/420/380 SEC's was notorious
(I suppose for all W 126 bodies as well, too.). 
People have mentioned all sorts of things from a short
circuit to a blown fuse.  Electrical wiring problems
generally are not that hard for me, but this one
really bugs. 

So, my question to everyone follows:

3) Can someone give me a detailed wiring schematic for
the instrument cluster (especially lighting)?

Other questions, while I am at it:

4) Has anyone found a way to convert the black
background on the instrument cluster to a silver
background to match that of the AMG machines?  That
would tres cool.  I cannot even think of a hack'ed way
to replicate the AMG cluster. Any ideas.
