Thanks!
I'm going to try that right now. I'm using a 1.5mm Allen wrench that I have ground down a little for the insertion tool.

I did my ignition tumbler a couple of hours ago and used a center punch in the three notches with a plastic mallet. The collar came right out, with some minor scratches on the paint on the collar but no damage to the metal. I used a big paperclip in the hole and wrapped it around the key to keep it in place while the collar was being removed. Some sanding on the collar face and then black touchup paint on the collar face when it was back in place and it looks fine. I used some wheel bearing grease on the collar threads to make sure the reassembly was easy. Tighten the collar all the way down then back it out enough for the marks to line up in their previous location, then pull the pin.

Does anyone have an ignition lock collar removal tool to lend or sell?

Can the collar be removed without this tool?

This is for the one hole ignition tumbler on W126 cars built before 8/89.

  Part number 126 589 07 14 00

Seems sensible to pass around a little used tool like this.

  Thanks in advance,
